I got a new bike recently, and shortly thereafter realized, if I wanted to ride said bike to my yoga classes, I would need a bag to transport my mat with me. Me being me, I couldn't just go off to the store and buy one- oh no, no, no. I had to spend a Saturday afternoon making one.
I really wanted to use fabric with one of my designs on it, but of course, me being me again, I was WAY too impatient to wait for fabric to come from spoonflower. So I looked around to see what I could find. I found a rolled up and ignored rug of mine from Society 6, and it turned out to be THE perfect material. It's a little bit heavy, which makes it feel extra fancy- but also not too heavy. And, the society 6 rugs have a really smooth hand feel, so they're perfect for projects like this.
I used Boat People Vintage's yoga bag DIY as the basis for crafting mine, except I added grommets to the top instead of a sewn channel for the top drawstring. Basically, I did that because the rug already has a nice finished edge that I wanted to use + the grommets just give it that little extra bit of specialness.
What do you think? Would you turn a rug into a yoga bag?!
