springtime surprise

Sometimes the best surprises come from patience.

Last year I planted strawberries. Then I found out that the first year it's best not to let the plants bloom (it helps the plant's root system flourish and get strong). So every time a little flower emerged I (tearfully) plucked it away. Sure enough, this year my wee tiny plant has spread considerably in my little side garden. But sigh, no flowers. Surely the plants should have bloomed by now.

And then yesterday as I was taking some photos in the yard what did I spy through the lens? A blossom!

It was the very best springtime surprise.
