Go with all your heart

I have a confession to make. I've lived in LA for 2 years and I don't think I have ever, really, given my whole heart to this city. I'm frequently asked if I like it here and my response is always "it's so great!" And that's not a lie. It is great. It's a city that's overflowing with possibility-especially as I think about how I want to grow as an artist and designer. And well, it's pretty hard to argue with the weather. So what gives you ask? I have a whole lot of thoughts, but one has stuck in my head lately.

You see, I frequently find myself lonely for Minneapolis. It was my home for so long. At a very crucial time in my life. And a whole heck of a lot happened to me in that city. And while all that stuff was happening I made some once in a lifetime friendships. And, I naively thought moving to a new city in my 30's would be just as easy as it was in my 20's. On top of all that, it's just a really wonderful city, and until I left, I didn't realize just how easy it was to live there. (Just get trapped in your car once in deadlocked freeway traffic and you'll know what I mean.)

Just like most people, I have difficulty letting things go sometimes. To make matters worse, I've come to realize recently that I tend to grip tighter to things that I need to let go of the most. So quite literally, I think I left my heart in MN. 

I loved this quote the minute I saw it because it was something I really needed to hear. "Wherever you go, go with all your heart." Good advice not just for a big move, but for anything really. For relationships. For business endeavors. For creative pursuits. It's not about the end result- because honestly, who really knows what THAT will be?! It's about the quality of our actions. And starting right now, I'm all in CA.
